The Hamptons.

The Hamptons

The Hamptons Overview

Sag Harbor’s location in the Hamptons on New York’s long island provides an aquatic backdrop for this stately home. Whilst incorporating that light and airy ambience into the interior design of the home we used white accompanied with shades of beige, which became the signature colors of this design, enriched by texture as well as the contrast of understated hues. The result is an atmosphere of sophisticated livability, making this home the peer of those in the Architectural Digest Top 100.

Part of the overall appeal of this top interior is the interplay of natural light with the equally natural materials of wood and stone, highlighted in the floors, counters and built-in cabinetry. From the remodeling of the kitchen and bathrooms, with their cream-colored cabinets and floors, to the elegant combination of warm wood floors and plush area rugs, the subtlety of the tones celebrates the beauty of this home’s architectural interior.

INSPIRATION

In 1955, Paul Trousdale choose this iconic piece of land to be his personal home. It sits atop of a private knoll and commands an impressive view. Obviously, it was the premier site as he built over 25,000 homes in Southern California but this was his personal one for over 40 years.

It was love at first site from the moment I walked over the threshold of this John Woolf Hollywood Regency style house. It was a classic beauty that just needed my touch and additional master bedroom suite with his and her baths. It only took me 18 months to make my mark and yet stay within the style of John Woolf architectural genius. With the new addition including curved custom windows that would overlook the new master bath and gardens. I studied in detail and added my own personal love of French 1940’s modernism with classical elements, shagreen flooring, and custom DLD bronze hardware.

In addition, I added a new Wine Cellar and brought in materials from Jerusalem for the flooring, arches, and ceiling of this custom wine room. It was a successful love affair and I feel it has my personal signature for sophisticated livability.

EMOTION

Even though this was featured in Architectural Digest as my home, I no longer own this house but have had the opportunity to dine there on more than one occasion…and that’s when I knew I had left my legacy as a designer. It still looks gorgeous and the interiors have a sense of timelessness, which is exactly what I wanted. The home’s great bones and commanding site ensures that it will always remain a classic for decades to come.
